JESSE WINCHESTER - Next Show in the Still Escaping Concert Series

Charlie is the musical host for a new series of folk and roots music concerts in Ottawa, Ontario. The "Still Escaping Concert Series" features some of the best roots performers in North America. The full schedule of shows and ticket information are available at www.nutshellmusic.com

R.I.P - Willie P. Bennett (1951 - 2008)

Together with so many others in the folk/roots community, Charlie and his associates mourn the recent passing of Willie P. Bennett. He was an amazing songwriter, an inspiration and a fine human being. The time spent last fall recording Charlie's song, Black Against the Wall, will be treasured.

 

 

 

Charlie - a grand prize winner in the 2007 OCFF "Songs From the Heart" Awards

Charlie Sohmer was awarded a grand prize in the 2007 OCFF Songs From the Heart Awards. His work, Marie Anne Lagimodiere, was chosen as the best French song in the competition, which is open to all Ontario songwriters. Charlie played the song, along with the members of Frida's Brow, during the 21st annual conference of the Ontario Council of Folk Festivals, held in London, ON from October 11 to 14. He received his grand prize from Roch Parisien, of Galaxie, CBC's network of continuous music.

Black Against the Wall - Remembrance Day 2007

Glowing Hearts Music proudly presents, in commemoration of Remembrance Day held November 11th , Juno Award winner, the late Willie P. Bennett’s recording of "Black Against The Wall".

The song, written by Charlie Sohmer, is a story about an old soldier looking back in time, recalling battles and friends, long gone. Charlie was interviewed by CFRA radio's Ron Corbett a few days before the official commemorations. It was given its "World Radio Premiere" on CKCU FM's Canadian Spaces show with Chopper McKinnon.
